My name is Mike Finding from Dorset, UK.

At the time of writing I am approaching 60 years of age. I guess I am what is termed a baby boomer!

So, why should you listen to me? Well, I believe that my age is a distinct advantage as there are many people of similar age who are trying to find a way to make a different life for themselves…..more on that in a moment.

I got used to working on the Internet because I decided quite a long while ago to start in web design! But I did come to it in a very round about way!

Why would you listen to Me?

I was brought up in a farming family and lived a very busy outdoor life for many happy years. In my forties, however, I decided that I needed to be standing up straight in my fifties! How does all that get me into web design and associated technologies? Well it took a long, long while because I would not even touch a computer in the early days, let alone switch one on! However, it eventually became apparent that my children would need access to a computer way back in the 90s for work and so I eventually bought one. (Some might say, quite understandably, that that was my excuse!!)

I tinkered with it! That is all you can say…I was VERY apprehensive of the thing. BUT I had always been into photography, so I tried scanning an image just to see what would happen….it was about then that the bug bit! I decided to go to the local college and learn how to use Photoshop, the hugely popular graphics and photo editing software.

Cutting a very long story short I was running a snack franchise with my family for several years in the late nineties and wound it up in 2001. I had no qualifications bar a knowledge that I could make changes and make things happen if I wanted to – we were Franchisee of the Year twice while we operated that business and the abiding memory for me was the franchise boss saying that “Attitude is Everything”……..

With no other qualifications and a small amount of computer knowledge I said I would learn web design!! I had NO idea how to do it, but I just knew that the information was “out there”…

I signed up for a distance learning course and got through on that as a Certified Internet Webmaster, learning some great tips from the other people on the course.

Fast forward to 2010 and I am in a position to help others do the same, now that I have run a web design business for 7 years!!
